Standards

Editorial Standards & Corrections

How we check what we publish, treat the people and organizations we write about, and correct our mistakes.

What we publish

BeaconStone publishes two numbered series. Policy Papers examine a system question and recommend reforms. Investigations report original, document-led findings from public records and the questions they raise. Both follow the same standards.

How we handle evidence

We link to primary sources wherever we can. Each publication separates established fact, reporting we attribute to others, allegations, BeaconStone's own analysis, and our recommendations. When a record is missing, partial, or conflicting, we say so, and we never treat missing information as proof of wrongdoing.

Allegations and court records

Criminal charges are allegations. When we report on a complaint, indictment, or affidavit, we attribute every statement to the filing and say so plainly. Everyone charged is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Fairness and right of reply

Before publishing a significant adverse finding about an identifiable person or organization, we ordinarily ask them for comment and give a reasonable deadline. We publish or summarize their response, or note that none arrived. Not responding is never treated as evidence of wrongdoing.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. Factual corrections are noted on the affected page with the date and what changed. Larger updates are issued as a new edition, and the earlier version is preserved. Minor typo and formatting fixes are recorded in our internal log. To report an error, email contact@beaconstonefoundation.org.

Independence

BeaconStone is funded entirely by its founder and takes no money from the organizations it examines. Read about our independence and funding.
